Xi'an, China

English:
After finally getting my visa, I took the subway from Hong Kong to Shenzhen and from there flew to Xi'an.
There I visited the famous exhibition of the Terracotta Army. The next day I wanted to explore the city, but it was pouring like crazy the whole day.

Nachdem ich endlich mein Visum bekommen hatte fuhr ich per U-Bahn von Hong Kong nach Shenzhen und flog von dort nach Xi'an.
Dort besuchte ich die berühmte Ausstellung der Terrakotta-Armee. Am nächsten Tag wollte ich die Stadt anschauen aber es regnete den ganzen Tag in Strömen.

Hong Kong

English:
I went to Hong Kong mainly to get my visa for China. This took much longer than expected and I had to stay for one week. Hong Kong is fascinating, but after a while the hustle and bustle was a bit too much and I fled to the New Territories and the Outlying Islands for some peace.
I stayed in the infamous Chungking Mansions in Kowloon and even though there you get the cheapest accommodation in all of Hong Kong, it was about 20 Euro a night for a room that was less than 5 square meters, bathroom included.

Ich ging nach Hong Kong hauptsächlich um mein Visum für China zu bekommen. Das dauerte deutlich länger als erwartet und ich musste eine ganze Woche dort bleiben. Hong Kong ist faszinierend, aber nach einer Weile wurde mir der Trubel zu viel und ich floh in die New Territories und die Outlying Islands für etwas Frieden.
Ich wohnte in den berüchtigten Chungking Mansions in Kowloon und obwohl es dort die günstigsten Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten in ganz Hong Kong gibt zahlte ich ungefähr 20 Euro pro Nacht für ein Zimmer welches weniger als 5 Quadratmeter groß war, Badezimmer eingeschlossen.

Singapore

English:
After an eventless but comfortable bus ride through southern Malaysia I arrived in Singapore after nightfall.
I stayed in a "pod" hostel. Imagine a wall with lots of compartments. Was quite fun :)
The city is quite unique. Adjectives like "sterile" and "clinical" come to mind. I think William Gibson described it best:
"Disneyland with the Death Penalty"
And it really feels like a theme park gone a bit too far: Nothing wrong with that for a day or two, but who would want to live in one?

Nach einer ereignislosen aber angenehmen Busfahrt durch Süd-Malaysia kam ich abends in Singapur an.
Ich wohnte in einem "Pod"-Hostel. Man stelle sich eine Wand mit lauter Fächern darin vor. War recht lustig :)
Die Stadt ist ziemlich einzigartig. Adjektive wie "steril" und "klinisch" drängen sich auf. Ich finde William Gibson beschrieb es am besten:
"Disneyland with the Death Penalty"
Und es fühlt sich wirklich an wie ein etwas übertriebener Freizeitpark: Daran ist nichts falsch für einen oder zwei Tage, aber wer würde in einem leben wollen ?

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

English:
While I was looking for a flight from Hanoi to Hong Kong, the ones I found were a bit expensive for such a small distance. For the same price, I could actually fly from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur, take a bus to Singapore and from there fly to Hong Kong.
So I did exactly that.
Kuala Lumpur is an interesting place, but I really would not want to live there. For multiple reasons.

Deutsch:
Alle Direktflüge von Hanoi nach Hong Kong die ich fand waren etwas teuer für eine solch kurze Strecke. Für den gleichen Preis könnte ich von Hanoi nach Kuala Lumpur fliegen, den Bus nach Singapur nehmen und von dort nach Hong Kong fliegen.
Also habe ich genau das getan.
Kuala Lumpur ist ein interessanter Ort, aber ich würde nicht dort wohnen wollen. Aus mehreren Gründen.

Hanoi, Vietnam

English:
The 2 days I spent in Hanoi I had a bit of a cold, so I recuperated because I had to be fit for what was to come.
No sightseeing really, but I was told I did not miss anything major.

Deutsch:
Die 2 Tage die ich in Hanoi verbrachte hatte ich eine kleine Erkältung, daher erholte ich mich da ich gesund sein musste für das was folgte.
Kein wirkliches Sightseeing gemacht, aber mir wurde gesagt ich hätte nichts wirklich Großes verpasst.

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

English:
Another overnight bus later I arrived in Hanoi. And next morning hurried on straight to Ha Long Bay.
Boarded a ship which traversed the little islands of the bay until the afternoon of the next day, spending the night on board. The food was a bit bland, but the company of fellow travelers was entertaining while the scenery was unique and fascinating.

Deutsch:
Eine weitere Nacht im Bus später kam ich in Hanoi an. Am nächsten Morgen ging es direkt weiter zur Ha Long Bucht.
Ging an Bord eines Schiffes welches bis zum darauf folgenden Nachmittag die kleinen Inseln der Bucht passierte. Die Nacht verbrachte ich an Bord. Das Essen war eher langweilig, aber die Gesellschaft der Mitreisenden war unterhaltsam und die Szenerie war einzigartig und faszinierend.
